Hey,

First of all, thanks for your question! An agnostic Sikh for me means a number of things. I culturally identify as a Sikh, having grown up going to the Gurdwara. Moreover, I feel an affinity for a number of Sikh values, such as respect, humility, being grounded, and a commitment to justice. However, I am not sure if I believe in the existence of an omnipotent God. I also don’t feel like I need to believe in such a God to identify as a Sikh.

Furthermore, I think Sikhism is defined by a notion of constant and critical reflection on the way one lives one’s life. I do need to learn more, but that is the essence of being a Sikh (the word literally means “student”). However, I get this sense from the way Guru Nanak approached the religion that he would not have excluded me from identifying as a Sikh while harbouring doubts about the existence of God. For me, the adjective “agnostic” encapsulates all these elements while retaining the noun, “Sikh”, as a marker of identity.

Thanks for your question! I know it may be a strange way of classifying oneself, but it probably isn’t even the strangest thing about me. I do hope that people would respect that I may have a different take on things :). I’m not preaching it as the “right” way or the “only” - it simply is the way for *me*.

Quick & easy cake that includes a whole can of chickpeas!

I saw this recipe that used a box cake mix & threw in a can of blended chickpeas instead of eggs. I’ve been wanting to try it since I saw it.

The cake turned out quite delicious. The tin of frosting appears to be mostly vegan (“may contain milk ingredients”) and the box mix was similar. The cake didn’t stick together very well, which it may do when it completely cools (I was impatient and began eating it right away). It was so good & I can’t believe there is an entire can of chickpeas in it!
